Winds of Change

Winds of Change!  One of my favorite scenes in Monsters, Inc is here:  Does anyone really like change??

I am a creature of habit.  I do not like change!  I will admit that I can be stubborn when it comes to change.  I like being comfortable in my surroundings; I like the familiarity of a routine.

We all experience different seasons in our lives.  With each season in my life I have adapted to the change it brought and managed to move into that season unscathed.  You adjust to married life just in time to make the change to life with children.  Your children grow and move through various stages just as you are mastering the current phase.  Bodies change and we age and learn to accept (or not accept) those changes.  As time goes by, we begin to deal with aging parents and the death of those who raised us, encouraged us and made such an impact on our lives.  The ‘winds of change’ can excite you, worry you, and cause great sadness…but change is something you can’t go through life without experiencing in some way, shape or form.

The last 9 months have brought about great change in my life.  Most of the seasons in our lives are expected……….or at least you are aware that they are coming at some point.  It’s the seasons in our lives that we have absolutely no control over that hit us the hardest.  I never expected to be recreating my life at 50 years of age.  Change that comes from unexpected circumstances is scary.  I like feeling in control of my life and waking up each morning with the realization that I have no control over certain things is hard to accept.  It has been through my weakest moments that I have realized just how strong I am.  It’s has been through the support of family and the dearest friends on the planet that have put me in a place today where I can say that change will not kill me.  Change will not destroy me.  Change will make me a better person and serve my life for what God has planned for my future.

Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

If you are experiencing a season of change in your life, meet it head on!  Make the choice to accept the change and use the circumstances to learn and grow.  For if we don’t choose to handle the situation with the best possible attitude and gratefulness, we may miss the opportunity to become stronger, learn lessons and grow into the person that God wants you to be for the next adventure and change in your life.  Is it easy? NO!!  Will it be comfortable, happy or pleasant during these times?  No!  Will you get through it and survive?  YES………….yes you will!!  If you are a person of faith, turn to that!!!  If you have an amazing group of family and friends that support you, LEAN ON THEM!!!

Life is always serving us ‘winds of change’.  It’s how we respond to those changes that matters.

You will go through stages of emotion during change and that’s ok!!  It’s how you come out on the other side that will show your true strength!!  You are stronger than you believe.  You are stronger than you can imagine!!  Use that strength to handle whatever this day brings you my friends!

With Gratitude in ALL circumstances!!

  2. Your words were encouraging to me! There have been many seasons I have seen and have had to embrace! Some I have dealt with well, others I am not sure I will ever give in to them!! Thank you for sharing your heart! Shannon

  3. Thank you for your thoughts. The winds of change are an important part of being human and are part of our experience during our time on Earth. Jesus is the example that I follow as my savior and God. He spent time as a human on this planet and if you read about his short life with us, you see the winds of change acting actively in his life with many of them super hurricane force winds! As you said with faith in God we will get through it! It might not be where we thought we would end up but God is good and as Jesus taught – God will take care of us just as he does the birds in the tree.
The hurricane force winds are the ones that most challenge us because when you take the direct hit, they can level all the structures that you have built to live in and survive. This is when God can be felt in your life the most when you are a believer. I have been fortunate to feel the gentle winds and the supper hurricane force winds in my life, and I say fortunately because this is part of being human just as was my savior Jesus. As a Christian of Scots-Irish descent, I find comfort in the words of the hymn “Be Thou My Vision” and when the winds blow, and they will blow this vision is what I hold fast too!
